Image sight approximately 8.25" x 11.5".
Reverse side of canvas features a stamp which reads, "Blanchet. 56 Rue Bonaparte. Paris."
Andre Derain (French, 1880-1954) was a multimedia artist credited with co-founding the Fauvist art movement. Derain's compositions helped break ground for modern art. Fauvist artwork (derided by critics in the early days) employed the stippled effect of Pointillism, along with a fearless use of color. Derain was noted for his longtime artistic relationship with another distinguished painter, Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954). Derain died near Paris in 1954.
