Description
Gyula Tornai (Hungarian, 1861-1928), "The Moroccan Bride," Orientalist School oil on panel depicting a commanding portrait of a woman in elaborate ceremonial attire, holding before her two intertwined sticks adorned with flowers, rendered in the aesthetic taste, signed "Tornai GY" lower right, the panel set in a gilt and ebonized Orientalist frame designed by Tornai to complement the subject matter. Image: 52.5" H x 34.75" W; frame: 63.25" H x 49.5" W x 3.5" D. Areas of conservation. Provenance: Bonhams New York: 19th Century European Paintings, November 5, 2014, Lot 7; Later removed from a private residence at the Pierre Hotel.
