Merlyn Oliver Evans (1910-1973), lot of 4 prints: Seed Pod, Helmet Mask and two additional untitled prints, 1957, etching and aquatint on paper, plate dimensions: 72X49 -74X54 cm, signed and dated on the plate, numbered in pencil: 12/50.Evans was Born in Wales and grew up in Glasgow. After attending the local School of Art (1927-31), he moved to London, studying at the Royal College of Art (1932-34). He became a member of the Surrealist group, showing his work at the International Surrealist Exhibition of 1936. In 1938 he moved to Durban, South Africa, to work as a teacher. After the war, he returned to London. From 1965 he taught painting at the Royal College of Art. Evans is known for his abstract prints and paintings. His work is exhibited in leading museums around the world, including the Tate Modern in London.
