Description
Group of Five African Carved Wood Masks, 20th c., consisting of an initiation mask with a white face and a pointed headdress; a helmet mask, Pende, with a flat top and raffia hair; a Cameroon example with elaborate hairdo; an elongated example with red and white paint, cowrie shells and fabric; and an elongated example with cowrie shell, punched metal and bead decoration, Largest- H.- 14 in., W.- 8 in., D.- 7 in. (5 Pcs.) Provenance: from the Estate of John C. McNeese, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. 20th c. Would benefit from cleaning. Painted initiation mask has losses to finish. Finish loss to elongated example with cowry shells.
