Description

Painting of woman by window, signed in a monogram HBC(?), and dated 1880.
This is a large painting and anyone considering buying this painting and shipping, I recommend you getting shipping quotes before you bid.

The painting measures 27 inches by 37 inches in a frame 29 inches by 39 inches. It weighs about 40 lbs.

David's notes: A fine Victorian painting with a familiar subject, the beautiful woman by the window, enveloped in sadness or despair, missing her lover or fiance who is away on a voyage at sea. The quality of the painting is quite good, unfortunately we don't know who the monogram CB is next to the date of 1880, but it appears to be one of the highly trained artists from the academies in London, if not a highly skilled American or European artist. On canvas. The surface is a little wavy but the condition is good, minor restoration over approx 10% of the surface. The painting was relined approximately 50 to 60 years ago.
