WWII Japanese Surrender Souvenir Copy with Photographs of the Event

3pp, measuring 8" x 9.5", Tokyo Bay, Japan, dated September 2, 1945. A printed souvenir copy of the Instrument of Surrender that formalized the Japanese surrender and brought about the end of World War II. With printed signatures by he the Japanese envoys Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and Gen. Yoshijiro Umezu, along with General Douglas M. Arthur and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. The ceremony was witnessed by delegates from the other Allied nations, including China, the United Kingdom, the USSR, France, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand. Light wear and scratching to the cover and spine of the document.

The souvenir copy is accompanied by five black and white photographs, all measuring 8.25" x 10", from the event. Includes General Jacques-Philippe Leclerc of France and Kuzma Derevyanko signing the document, as well as McArthur and Nimitz arriving aboard the USS Missouri. Minor bumping to the corners of each photograph.

The Instrument of Surrender was signed aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 at 9:08am. On September 6, Col. Bernard Thielen returned to the United States and brought the surrender document and a second imperial rescript back to Washington, DC. On September 7, Thielen presented the documents to President Truman in a formal White House ceremony.
