Description
DESCRIPTION: Sir Anthony Van Dyck, also known as Antoon Van Dyck (Belgium 1599-1641) "ST. Mary Magdalen" Oil On Oak Panel Painting. This painting representing S. Mary Magdalen, is oil on Oak panel. On the reverse side is the panelmark of Michiel Vriendt and of the city of Antwerp. This panelmark is very common for old masters such as Peter Paul Rubens and his school where Van Dyck studied. Peter Paul Rubens referred to Sir Anthony Van Dyck as "his best pupil." R. Michiel Vriendt, famous panel maker, was a member of the Antwerp Guild between 1605 and 1637. Art Historian De Bruyn Jean-Pierre states that art master specialist, Erik Larsen, who wrote an important work on Van Dyck accepted this as S. Mary Magdelen immediately as an original work by Sir Anthony Van Dyck. Paperwork available upon request from Erik Larson himself. There is no doubt that the painting dates from the first half of the 17th Century, has been verified by numerous experts. The painting was recently exhibited for Mary Magdalen" in the "Museo Nacional De San Carlos."
