This lot consists of an ink and watercolor illustration on paper, done in the German Expressionist style of George Grosz (German-American, 1893-1959). "Grosz" is hand written in ink at lower left corner. Image depicts a swirl of human figures, each carrying out their everyday lives in a jumble of intersecting tone and line. An interesting comment on the hubbub of modern society. This unframed piece measures approximately 9.25" x 6".

George Grosz (German-American, 1893-1959) was a painter, draftsman, and printmaker who was born in Berlin when it was still the kingdom of Prussia. As a young artist, Grosz's anti-war stance brought him into contact with Berlin Dadaists and New Objectivists, and he eventually left when the Nazis came into power. George Grosz is particularly valued for his caricatures and studies of Berlin life, often created with a jagged pen and ink line. He exhibited regularly and taught for many years at the Art Students League of New York. In 1959, Grosz returned to Berlin, where he died in the same year.
