Description
Nocito, George (American, 1917-1977), Untitled Abstract, 1957, mixed media with cast sand and acrylic, signed and dated lower right, panel is 13 x 37 inches, in a wood frame 15 x 39 inches. Nocito was a sculptor and professor who chaired the West Virginia Art Department in the 1960s. He also created the 50 foot bronze relief sculpture and large aluminum fountain in 1961 for the new Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. His work appeared as an major architectural feature in many Mid-Century Modern buildings, include a 120 square foot relief sculpture in the lobby of 635 Madison Ave on NYC's Upper East Side, the Alitalia terminal at JFK Airport and the Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in addition to the Harris Bank Building in Chicago.
