Here is a framed abstract (acyclic and a thick white paint with texture) on panel by George Boys. The framed original is approx 48" x 1" x 40" and it weighs 13lbs. The framed original is in a good, used condition with some wear and tarnish and surface rust on the metal frame. There are also some markings from age and storage on the panel. George Boys was a South African abstract painter. Boys’ bright, energetic paintings were influenced by Wassily Kandinsky and Japanese calligraphy. “For some time, I produced paintings which satisfied the usual classical, painterly criteria,” he once explained. “But I soon realized that, if one totally controls a painting—rationally and intellectually—then one is painting from a very small area of experience only.” Born in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 22, 1930, Boys received his formal training at the Witwatersrand Technical Art School in Johannesburg. At the age of 32, he held his first exhibition at Guenther Gallery. The artist would go on to represent South Africa at the Sáo Paulo Biennale in 1965 and at the Athens Art Festival in 1976. Emigrating to New Zealand in 1996, he died on March 4, 2014, in New Plymouth, New Zealand.
