This lot consists of a mixed media illustration on paper, executed in the avant-garde manner of Lazar "El" Lissitzky (Russian, 1890-1941). This strikingly modern composition is an elegant example of Lissitzky's Suprematist style. Overall, this unframed composition measures approximately 11" x 8".
Lazar "El" Lissitzky (Russian, 1890-1941) was an artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist, and architect. A major figure in the development of Suprematism and the Russian avant-garde, Lissitzky also played a key role in the design of numerous works of propaganda and exhibits for the Soviet Union. Lissitzky was a huge influence to both the constructivist and Bauhaus art movements. The entire career of Lazar "El" Lissitzky was fueled by the intense belief that the artist can and should be an agent for change.
