This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, rendered in the modern style of Fauvist painter Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954). "Henri Matisse" is inscribed in red paint at lower right. Image depicts a sitting female; the entire composition is done in bright, vivid colors. A striking piece executed in the modernist style for which Matisse was so well known. Overall framed dimensions approximately 29" x 40.5".

Henri Matisse (French, 1869 - 1954) was an artist known for both his fluid use of colour and his original draughtsmanship. He was an illustrator, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century.
