**First Time At Auction**

Native American, North America, Woodlands, ca. 200 to 1000 CE. A lovely carved-stone twin-lobed axe head featuring a flat elliptical body with rounded points on each end and a full central groove, perhaps used with a short handle for shaping wood or softer stone. With one side more dramatically tapered than the other, the ancient tool boasts a surface so smooth, it appears lustrous, and is naturally adorned in shades of charcoal and ash grey. Woodland people developed agricultural techniques and produced many varieties of maize and other crops. Tools like these examples would have facilitated this process. A striking example from ancient Native American culture! Please note that the Lucite stand is for photography purposes only. Size: 5.5" L x 2.125" W x 0.5" H (14 cm x 5.4 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private Englewood, Colorado, USA collection, found in Southern Wyoming, USA ca. 1950 to 1960
