Description
Manfred Schwartz - Type: Lithograph (hand pulled stone litho) Signed in Red Edition: 14 / 30 Very small edition - scarce lithograph Framed: Framing is exquisite, expensive and beautiful Dimension: framed : 26 1/2 x 32 1/2" Site: 18 x 24" Exhibited with Edward Hopper, Maurice de Vlaminck, Andrew Wyeth. Manfred Schwartz is widely regarded as one of the greatest academic painters of all time. Know for his "hand pulled lithographs". In the 1940's he began to paint more abstract. By the mid 1950's and through the next ten years he created a series of hand pulled stone lithographs (conceived by the artist to be something to be printed vs adapted from other media such as a painting). The image is created directly on a printing plate !!!! In Paris where he went to school, Schwartz associated with Picasso, Matisse, Roualt and Braque (what an ecclectic and privileged group to hang out with ). Matisse was already 40 years his senior and was impressed with Manfred's unique insight and use of color and thus took him under his wing. Manfred's works were soon in demand sold by galleries in NYC and Paris and acquired by the Guggenheim and the Whitney for their permanent collections. His inner circle of friends included Marcel Duchamp and Roberto Matta. His work was unified by a theme of semi abstract images. Permanent collections: The Chrysler Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The MET NY, The Museum of Modern Art, NY, The Philadelphia Museum of Art. This is a beautiful example of his work .
