American Late Classical Mahogany Secretary Bookcase

second quarter 19th century, probably New York, the form typically associated with the manufacturing firm of Joseph Meeks & Sons, of diminutive proportions, the upper section with a projecting, flared cornice above an arched frieze and a pair of glazed doors, flanked by turned columns, the lower case with a fold-down writing surface above three long drawers, also flanked by columns and raised on turned legs.

In "as found" condition. Scattered old veneer patches to the cornice molding. Small veneer chips around the mid-section row of drawers. Shrinkage to the seams of the flip-over writing deck. Scattered rubs to the lower case. Good overall patina with a rich, dark finish. Note: This form is typically a foot or two taller and a foot or two wider.
