Description
Circa 1820, Fairfield District of South Carolina. Rare form having a molded crown over two hinged and glazed doors housing two shelves within the case flanked by turned half columns at each side over the lowercase housing pull out upper writing surface with fall front which is held up by two period wrought iron hooks to secure the desktop for use. The lower case housing two drawers all rests atop four handsome tapered legs. The secondary wood is hard yellow pine throughout. H88 1/4" W50 1/2" D18 1/2" This piece descended through the Rabb family of Fairfield County, South Carolina and is said to have been made on their farm or nearby by a local cabinet maker who's said to have been African American.
