Description
This extremely rare, original Grand Army of the Republic flag/banner was flown at the first gathering, which was held in Madison, Wisconsin. Printed in red and blue ink, it depicts an outstretched winged eagle over crossed cannons and cannonballs. Beneath the cannons hangs a U.S. flag over a five-pointed star. The center of the star is the G.A.R. medallion. The text on the flag reads "Welcome Comrades." Quality framed, it also has an accompanying original flag stick. It measures 35" tall x 24" across and is in excellent condition. Minor discoloration of the fabric.
