ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC CHILDREN'S TOY THREE-PIECE TEA SERVICE, comprising a teapot, a covered sugar, and a creamer, each having purple/mulberry transfer decorations with matching scroll border decorations featuring images including a child jumping rope with pagodas in background, a figure kneeling and wearing a turban with string of bells above, and two figures, one with a whip. Each having blue-printed "10" to underside. Second quarter 19th century. 3 5/8" HOA.
Creamer undamaged and remaining in excellent visual condition; teapot with spots of professional restoration including spout end, interior gallery, and handle; sugar with minor flake to interior gallery and cover with professional restoration to rim.
Literature: Jumping rope example parallels Halliday and Zeller - Chinoiserie: Printed British Ceramics in the Chinese Style, 1750-1900 p. 155, fig. bottom left.
