Photograph of the U.S.S. Indianapolis Signed by 24 Crewmen. Glossy black and white photograph, 8" x 10", no place; no date. Signed by twenty-four survivors of the U.S.S. Indianapolis in blue felt-tip, obtained at several of their reunions. The great battleship that was torpedoed by Japan July 30, 1945, after it had completed a secret mission to deliver parts of an atomic bomb to the island of Tinian. Almost 1,000 crewmen were left at sea for four days, battling dehydration, saltwater poisoning and most notably, relentless shark attacks. Of the original 1,196 crewmen aboard the ship, only 316 survived. The sinking still remains the greatest single loss of life at sea from a single ship in the history of the US Navy. Condition: Boldly signed.
