Jules Verne ALS Responding to a Young Fan.
1p on bifolium, measuring 4" x 5.375", Amiens, France, dated January 9, 1875. A short letter, responding to a child who requested his photograph. Dated shortly after the first theater performance of "Around the World in Eighty Days". Written in French, it translates in full: "My dear child, I do not have a photograph that I can send you, and I regret it, because you are asking me in a very kind way. So I can only answer you, and I do so with the greatest pleasure. Believe me, your friend Jules Verne." Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Verne's hand. Letter has flattened mail folds. Light toning and wear. Clear signature.
Jules Gabriel Verne (1828-1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. His best known works include Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872). The stage adaptation of the latter was produced by Verne and Adolphe d'Ennery in 1874.
