John Q. Adams Signed Orations & Correspondence of J.Q. Adams Presented to General John Ellis Wool 

Unique "sammelband" book containing several separately printed pamphlets, titled on the spine: Orations By and Correspondence of President John Adams, Presented to General Wool by John Quincy Adams. Hardcover bound in contemporary sheep with gilt spine titling, 5.75" x 9". Autographic condition: very good to fine, with scattered foxing and uniform toning to the signed page. Book condition: G+/None, with scuffing to exterior, hinges cracked and boards partially detached, heavy wear at spine ends, and a "Library of Lawrence E. Miller" blindstamp to a rear page. General John Ellis Wool served in the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and—at age 77—the Civil War, making him the oldest active general officer on either side.

Contents include:

- Oration on the life and character of Gilbert Motier de Lafayette. Delivered at the request of both houses of the Congress of the United States, before them, in the House of Representatives at Washington, on the 3rd of December, 1834, signed and inscribed in ink, "General Wool, from John Quincy Adams."

- An oration addressed to the citizens of the town of Quincy, on the fourth of July, 1831, the fifty-fifth anniversary of the independence of the United States of America (unsigned).

-Correspondence between the Hon. John Adams, late President of the United States, and the late Wm. Cunningham, Esq. (unsigned).

- Review of the correspondence between the Hon. John Adams, late President of the United States, and the late Wm. Cunningham, Esq. Beginning in 1803, and ending in 1812, by Timothy Pickering, signed and inscribed in ink by Pickering, "For General Wool, with the respects of the Author."

- Correspondence of the late President Adams, originally published in the Boston Patriot (unsigned).

- A letter from the Hon. Timothy Pickering, a Senator of the United States from the state of Massachusetts, exhibiting to his constituents a view of the imminent danger of an unnecessary and ruinous war, addressed to His Excellency James Sullivan (unsigned).

- American Principles: A Review of Works of Fisher Ames, compiled by a number of his friends (unsigned).

- A letter to the Hon. Harrison Gray Otis, a member of the Senate of Massachusetts, on the present state of our national affairs; with remarks from Mr. Pickering's letter to the Governor of the Commonwealth (unsigned)
