Description
(Civil War Railroad Map of The Seat of War) LLOYD'S AMERICAN RAILROAD MAP SHOWING THE WHOLE SEAT OF WAR, by James T. Lloyd. This large, 50" x 41" hand-colored map was originally published in this format in the June 15, 1861 issue of Lloyd's American Railway Weekly, only 2 months after the beginning of war hostilities. The large inset in L.R. shows "Escambia, Santa Rosa Cos. FL. Showing Pensacola Harbor", and depicts the forts and the position of the U.S. fleet blocking it's entrance. The circular gauge to it's left is "Lloyd's Amer. Wkly. Time Dial, showing times in 28 different US cities. Unfortunately, because of it's size, age and the thin newsprint paper on which it is printed, the map has more than it's share of creases, dampstaining(mostly along the margins), holes and L & R margin wear and loss from insects(?) and general abuse, especially to the upper right, where the textblock description is partly detroyed. Overall, a fair example of an extremely scarce, fragile and early map of the war.
