AN ANTIQUE IBERIAN PENINSULA MAP, "Regnorum Castellæ Veteris, Legionis, Galæciæ, Principatuum Biscaiæ Astariarum, Accuratissima Descriptio Per F. de Wit, Amsterdam," CIRCA 1690, hand colored ink engraving on paper, after Frederik de Wit (Dutch 1630-1706), hand numbered eight U/R, plate: 19 1/2" x 22 3/4". Note: This map details the territory granted to the Duke of Savoy, Victor Amadeus, by Ferdinand II, which was previously surrendered during the Treaty of Cheras, April 6, 1631, and confirmed by the "Peace Treaty between the Holy Roman Emperor and the King of France," paragraphs XCVIII-C, of the Treaty of Westphalia, October 24, 1648. Provenance: Property from a Corporate Art Collection.
Condition
Some waving of paper, fading of pigments, joined seam on paper, some acid staining and transfer, yellowing areas and stains, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
