1904 Polygamy in Mormonism Beadle Mormon Secret Rites Latter Day Saints LDS
“In 1831, polygamy was condemned in a revelation to Joseph Smith, published in the Book of Doctrine and Covenants. In July 1834, the revelation in favor of polygamy was given to Joseph Smith.”
– Waite, The Mormon Prophet
John Hanson Beadle, journalist and author, was enlisted in the 31st Indiana infantry for the Civil War. His first newspaper work was done for the Cincinnati Commercial spending eight years in the far West, the first year as editor of the Salt Lake Reporter. Beadle wasn't friendly to the Mormon Church, a passion that becomes very evident in his writings. Beadle’s book ‘Polygamy’ is a history of polygamy within Mormonism, including ceremonies, secret rites, crimes, and analysis meant to discredit and warn others about the Mormon religion.
