1865 1ed CIVIL WAR Nurse & Spy in Union Army Women Nursing SOLDIER PROVENANCE
Sarah Emma Edmonds was a Canadian known for serving in the Union Army during the American Civil War disguised as a man. ‘Nurse and Spy’ is a record of events during military life in the camp, fields, and hospitals of the Civil War. Edmonds participated in numerous battles, including Bull Run, Williamsburg, Antietam and Fredericksburg, in the capacity of "Spy" and as "Field Nurse" for over two years. While acting as a spy, she infiltrated the enemy's lines at least eleven times without detection.
This rare first printing is complete with the 12 illustrations by R. O’Brien and features the portrait of Edmonds engraved on steel by Geo. E. Perine.
