1865 1ed CIVIL WAR Nurse & Spy in Union Army Women Nursing Bull Run Antietam Battles
Sarah Emma Edmonds (1841 – 1898), was a Canadian-born woman who is known for serving as a man with the Union Army during the American Civil War. ‘Nurse and Spy’ is a record of events which transpired in the experience of military life in the camp, fields, and hospitals during the Civil War. Edmonds participated in numerous battles, including Bull Run, Williamsburg, Antietam and Fredericksburg, in the capacity of "Spy" and as "Field Nurse" for over two years.
While in the "Secret Service" as a "Spy", she penetrated the enemy's lines, in various disguises, no less than eleven times; always with complete success and without detection. Her efficient labors in the different Hospitals as well as her arduous duties as "Field Nurse", embrace many thrilling and touching incidents.
This rare first printing is complete with the 12 illustrations by R. O’Brien and features the portrait of Edmonds engraved on Steel by Geo. E. Perine.
