Xanthus Russell Smith (1839-1929) Two works: Jonathan Tyson's Place, dated, "1865", and Landscape with Field and Houses, dated, "1860" The first work inscribed, signed, and dated verso, "The original house on the Jonathan Tyson place torn down about 1859 or 60 - outdoor sketch done in 1856 Xanthus Smith", oil on board, framed; the second work initialed and dated to verso, "X. S. 1860", oil on canvas, framed.10 3/4 in. x 6 1/2 in. (sight) and 7 in. x 4 3/4 in. (sight) PROVENANCE: James D. Julia, Fairfield, Maine, August 8, 2012, Lots 1293 and 1294.
