A Federal carved figured walnut tall case clockSolomon Parke & Co. (1797-1801), Philadelphia, PA, circa 1800 Enameled face with moon phase inscribed, "Solomon Parke & Co./ Phila," works with iron false plate marked, "Osbournes/ Manufactory/ Birmingham," and bell marked, "Gainsworth Warrt."H: 97 in. PROVENANCE: By descent in the Slack Family of Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania to the present owner. Original owner Cornelius Slack (1751-1828), to son, Abraham Slack (1794-1859), to Joseph Slack (1837-1899), to son, Herbert Lloyd Slack (1872-1963), to daughter, Jean Carter Slack (1917-2002), to nephew and present owner.
Condition
repaired breaks to rear feet; two newer support blocks to underside that are stabilizing an old split; a replaced glue block to one front foot; small loss to back of right facing molding of hood; losses and scuffing to face, particularly to mood dial; burl buckle to either side of upper case near top of case door, with screw reinforcements; cracks to right-facing quarter column; chips to turnings on both sides of case; as with all mechanical objects, Freeman's doesn't guarantee functionality
