Ceremony Manger Marassa, circa early 1960's
Oil on canvas, 22 x 30 inches
Framed dimensions: 23 3/4 x 31 3/4 inches
Lot Essay: Andre Pierre, who was a powerful Houngan, dedicated his body of work to the depiction of Vodou gods, their ceremonies and representative symbols. A friend of the filmmaker Maya Deren, who collected his work, Andre Pierre's paintings were exhibited at Documenta 14 (2017).
Condition: In original vintage condition. Stretcher marks present across upper portion.
