Description
A small lidded blue and white porcelain box with cobalt painting on the lid of a peony from the time of the Ming Dynasty. The round two part porcelain box has a rich deep dark cobalt design of a peony and scrolling on the lid and body. The base is unglazed and has a very slight raised foot. The piece is hand potted as you can see the potter’s wheel marks. The glaze feels very soft to the touch. MEASUREMENTS 1 ¼” (3.2 cm) diameter x 1 ½” (3.8 cm) tall. Weighs 1.9 oz (55 g) CONDITION There are four chips to the inside of the flange of base, and a slight crack off one of the chips. There is wear and calcification on the lid and body. The cobalt shows dark black explosions. A small very old treasure.
