Henry Miller; Tropic of Capricorn (1939) First Edition, First Printing - This rare and highly collectible literary treasure is a First Edition, First Printing of the fourth novel by Henry Miller, Tropic of Capricorn, published in 1939 by the Obelisk Press, Paris. This good example comes in the publisher's red wrapping and is a fully attached copy with all 367 pages fresh and unmarked and the scarce errata slip tipped in preceding the front free endpaper. The rear cover bears a small tear yet this highly uncommon copy remains as complete as any we've seen. This is one of only 1000 First Edition copies printed in Paris to avoid obscenity laws in the United States. The book was banned in the U.S. and not published in the country until a 1961 Justice Department ruling declared that its contents were not obscene. This is an exceedingly worthwhile literary collectible with a unique history.
