Description
This sign is in a period frame with wood backing, this graphic is a very early cardboard lithograph with stunning and comic advertising for mule riding in the Dan Rice Great Show. Dan Rice was an American entertainer of many talents, most famously as a clown, who was pre-eminent before the American Civil War. Rice became so popular he ran for President of the United States in 1868, dating this broadside to the 1870's. There are areas of soiling and some discoloration in small areas, consistent with age and use of the ad. Marked "Litho of Surony & Co. of New York". An outstanding early circus/sideshow advertising piece. Condition: (7.5). Dimensions: Frame: 43 - 3/4" x 32".
