BLACK-ON-WHITE, TULAROSA, AZ, ANASAZI SPIRAL-STYLE ACOMA POT; by LUPITA VALLO, ca. 1962 A couple of impact chips on side center of spiral, otherwise excellent condition. Mark: On the bottom: "Acoma / N. Mex / L. Vallo" Description: The pot has three giant spirals that take over almost the entire pot. The spaces between consist of hatched and black stair-steps. The spirals are paired, with a quarter-inch black line entwined with one wide hatched band. The only color is a band of "red" slip inside the rim. The foot is flat. Note: Lupita Vallo (not to be confused with Lucita Vallo) was born c1900, and specialized in using the Tularosa styles. (1) Tularosa painting originated in the 13th Century, with the spiral often used. The mid-60s-aged dealer (Frank McLister of Parker, CO) said that his parents bought it in the 1960's, from the potter, and kept it in storage for most of the time. He said that he knew that the potter was an old woman. 6.5"d x 5.5"h.
