Photograph taken at the “Chez Firehouse” nightclub in the “American Music Hall / 141 East 55th St., New York City / Plaza 3-8565,” 2.25” x 3” image, overall 3.5” x 5.75”. Circa late 1930s.
“Ernest” is lightly penned in block letters in an unknown hand at top margin. Unrelated words penciled on verso. Lightly soiled.Pictured are Ernest Hemingway and, most likely, Martha Gellhorn, his third wife.This Chez Firehouse souvenir photograph was found by Ernest Hemingway's widow Mary in 1962 when she was cleaning out his belongings from the storeroom at Sloppy Joe's Bar in Key West, Florida, and is likely unpublished.
