Taino (1000-1500 CE) Twin Bird Head Ceremonial Axe. Carved greenish white translucent stone. Birds were considered cosmic allies guiding projected spirits during hallucinogenic quests. A decorative band encircles ax blade near top. Size: 5'' x 2.5'' x 1'' (13 x 6 x 3 cm). Provenance: Larry Roberts, author of Taino Sculpture: Art of the Gods.
