NO RESERVE Music.- Gluck.- Rosso (Lorenzo Ottavio del) Prologo fatto gia in occasione del futuro felice parto di S. A. R. Maria Luisa arciduchessa d'Austria, title within ornate engraved historiated border, woodcut head-pieces and decorative initial, title closely trimmed at fore-edge, some light staining, early 20th century calf-backed marbled boards, spine gilt, rubbed at extremities, small 4to, Florence, Printers to the Grand Duke, 1767.
⁂ The libretto of a solo cantata performed in the Teatro della Pergola on 22nd February, 1767 to celebrate the birth of Maria Teresa. The Grand Duke invited the Viennese composer Christoph Willibald Gluck to set the text. He conducted both the present piece and Marco Coltellini's Ifigenia in Tauride.
Provenance: Prince Piero Ginori Conti (1865-1939) (bookplate and gilt crowned cipher to spine); Giannalisa Feltrinelli (sold Christie's, South Kensington, 2nd June, 1998, lot 1312).
