Description
An attractive Near Eastern bronze votive axe head. c. 1000 - 600 BC, the shaft hole cylindrical with four straight ribs at the back terminating in long conical points. Four ridges extend horizontally from the ribs at back and join together just ahead of the shaft hole and end in an arrowhead. The upper portion of the blade is strengthened by thickening. L: 4 in (10.2 cm). Nicely patinated and with a great custom base. Ex Stephenson collection, CT acquired in the 1980's.
