A DIRECTOIRE GILT BRONZE AND BLACK MARBLE MANTLE CLOCK, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY, the circular drum form case topped by a classical figure of a despondent maiden wearing long robes and holding an empty ewer over a kylix, standing on a black block form base over a white enamel dial enclosing black Roman hour chapters beneath Arabic fifteen minute numerals and blued steel trefoil hands, over twin key escapements and framed by a minutely detailed band of guilloché within rows of beading, above a reticulated apron of scrolling tailed sphinx centering curling foliage and anthemion pendant, verso eight day brass clockworks with silk string suspended pendulum ending in a pierced bob, held aloft by elongated baluster form columnar shafts surmounted by two handled classical urns and supported by square form socles with maiden mask mounts, raised on a rectangular black marble base with beaded trim over a central gilt bronze classical mask issuing leafy fruiting stalks, elevated by circular engine turned bronze feet. Height: 18 1/2" Width: 9 5/8" Depth: 3 1/2" Provenance: Lifelong Collection of Clocks and Antiques, Navasota, Texas.

Good condition for clocks of this age, use and materials including but not limited to normal surface buildup in crevices, top figure re-gilt, pendulum replaced, some small nicks on the black marble base, lacking glass cover on bezel and steel hands have light surface rust.
