Description
A RENAISSANCE REVIVAL PATINATED METAL AND ROUGE GRIOTTE MARBLE FIGURAL MANTLE CLOCK, FRENCH, 1880, with a figure of a Renaissance style attired huntsman in a dramatic pose as he prepares to sound his hunting horn w his excited loyal hound at his feet, on an oval groundwork base incised "1880" and a conforming marble pedestal case wrapped in a patinated metal deep relief frieze with applied stag and doe figures, centering a circular glass-domed bronze bezel opening to a white porcelain dial with black Arabic numerals and cut steel hands over twin key escapements, verso pierced gilt bronze door opening to brass clockworks suspending a pendulum and stamped with pastille "MÉDAILLE D'ARGENT," encircling a berried laurel branch and numbered "1995 / 4 4," raised on a stepped rectangular base with gilt stylized scrolling foliate cast feet. Height: 31" Width: 14" Depth: 11 1/4" Provenance: Lifelong Collection of Clocks and Antiques, Navasota, Texas.
Condition
Good condition with some expected buildup in crevices throughout, a few small edge nicks and the enamel dial has a chip 9 o'clock.
