A FRENCH NEOCLASSICAL REVIVAL ORMOLU MOUNTED ROUGE GRIOTTE MARBLE CLOCK, LATE 19TH CENTURY, the lidded dual handled red marble bodied urn stands over an Aesthetic Movement smooth front arched pediment centering an engraved rouge marble dial with dual escapement encircled by a Greek key mount issuing leafy acanthus flourishes and anthemia fans, the clockworks marked with numbers 18566 and 4-8, flanked by Neo-Grec style masks of Persephone with flowers in her hair modestly covered by a handkerchief swag on an octagonal plaque, over a cavetto molding on a rectangular plinth base with curling front splayed foot legs centering a gilt cabochon and fan mount. Height: 16 1/2" Width: 10 1/4" Depth: 6 1/4" Provenance: Lifelong Collection of Clocks and Antiques, Navasota, Texas.
Condition
The dial once signed but now rubbed and illegible, some minor wear, dust, a solder repair to the chime hammer arm, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age.
