DESCRIPTION: This silver gelatin print is untrimmed and unmounted with several stamps from Don Worth along with the title and date in Don Worth's hand in pencil sheet verso. An additional stamp reads "This print is for reproduction purposes only; not for display". The relatively soft tones of this print suggests that Worth wanted to show a broad tonal range for reproduction. This print was likely made in the 1980's for promotion of the Message from West Coast portfolio, for which Byers' sourced prints.

Don Worth (1924-2009) held an innate love for classical music, with disciplined study that translated into a technical mastery of photography. Worth's path resembles that of his mentor, Ansel Adams, who also balanced his commitments to music and photography. Worth became Adams' first full-time assistant in 1956, initiating a long-term friendship founded on their mutual aesthetic interests. Worth went on to differentiate himself as a horticultural photographer, and taught photography for three decades in San Francisco.
