Pre-Columbian, Teotihuacan, ca. 200 to 600 CE. Seven hand-modeled ceramic vessels of a characteristic Mesoamerican shape, circular with rough holes clearly made by pressing fingers into them. The use of these fascinating objects is not fully understood, but they seem to have been personal braziers used for burning ritual incense. The holes at the sides could be used for air flow or inserting copal. Size of one (they are all similar in size): 3" W x 1.8" H (7.6 cm x 4.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
