**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery whistle in the form of an adorable puppy as it attempts to stand on its four attenuated legs. The bulbous body terminates on the back with a curled tail, and the broad neckline is adorned with an ornamented collar. The playful countenance bears slanted, coffee-bean-shaped eyes in front of a tapered snout, and a pair of perky ears flank the rounded top. Vibrant remains of red and orange pigment are visible across the whistle, and the instrument makes a delightful raspy sound when played. Size: 3.75" L x 2" W x 2.2" H (9.5 cm x 5.1 cm x 5.6 cm)

Condition
Repaired from multiple large pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor fading to original pigment and light encrustations. Nice remaining detailing throughout.
