East Asia, Japan, ca. early 20th century CE. An interesting three-legged example of a shogi, a type of folding chair or stool used by samurai, easily transportable by horseback and still comfortable to sit upon when stopped at a camp for the night. This example has wooden legs and a white leather seat. Size: 23" H (58.4 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired in January 2006; ex-private Onomichi, Hiroshima, Japan collection

Condition
Repaired using modern screws through the legs. Otherwise original material. Legs are in fine condition while the leather seat has some staining and wear commensurate with age.
