Description
**Originally Listed At $700**
West Africa, Burkina Faso, Lobi peoples, ca. early 20th century. Skillfully carved from a single piece of hard wood with a deep, lustrous dark brown patina, a zoomorphic stool presenting an animal with a long, curved neck, a knobby head, two conical front legs, a third leg that appears to be bent behind or have a foot, and a tail that extends beyond the legs. Three legs indicate that this stool was intended for a man to lounge upon during the cool evenings when the sun has gone down (in contrast, Lobi stools for women traditionally have four legs). Size: 27" L x 5.3" W x 13" H (68.6 cm x 13.5 cm x 33 cm)
Provenance: ex-Dr. Peter Korvath collection, Massachusetts and Florida, 1990s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
