Description
"A Plan For China." [British Government], 1925. Folio. 13, [1] leaves. Printed on heavy stock, on recto only, stapled at upper left corner. ********** Very Scarce. Provides rare insight into British opinion on China following WWI. The whole appears to be a discussion as to what Britain's foreign policy toward China will be going forward. The candid nature of the document tends to suggest that it was an internal document intended for British officials only: "... we may be satisfied that the body of informed opinion in China now favours some form of foreign intervention. In private, almost any Chinese with a stake in the Country will admit that all hope of salvation from within has disappeared;" "America is too rich and has too little real interest in China to be bribed. The Americans are usually prepared to listen to an appeal based upon moral grounds." We locate no copy other than the one present. Rare.
