Description
A Rare Tall Chinese Northern Song or Liao Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Bottle. With two sturdy loop handles and coated both inside and outside in a thick olive-green glaze. The flat base embedded with kiln grit. Height 45cm (17.5 inches).
For reference: a similar example excavated from Balin Left Banner, in present day Inner Mongolia, is illustrated and described in the 2006 Asia Society book “Gilded Splendor, Treasures of China’s Liao Empire” where the kilns scars and unglazed mouth are explained. Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1127) or Liao Dynasty (AD 907 - 1125).
Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
