Tibetan copper alloy figure of Dharmapala Begtse Chen also known as Chamsing, Eastern Tibet (Kham or Amdo region), 17th or 18th century, polychrome, 8.25 x 7 x 2.5 inches, weight 2960 grams. The protector and a god of war Begtse Chen, in typical standing pose trampling the bodies of a horse and human figure on top of the pedestal, right hand holding a scorpion-handled blade and his left with the heart of his enemy, skull crown, necklace of severed heads, elaborately swirling garments and flaming hair. Figure and base cast separately and securely joined, hollow bottom. Himalayan Art Resources item no. 90573.
Condition
