New World, US Southwest, Navajo or similar style, ca. mid 20th century CE. A bolo tie with a braided leather cord and a rectangular silver ornament studded with two pieces of inlaid turquoise and one of red coral. Two silver dangling tips hang from each end. Bolo ties are a symbol of the US Southwest, first created around 1950 by Native artists. These pieces are largely unsigned by their artists and serve as a kind of wearable folk art.
