Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful duo of hand-built terracotta figures with characteristic "sheepface" visages comprised of projecting noses, pointed ears, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, and tall foreheads with stylized headbands. The seated figure has a white-painted skirt with linear and spotted designs, and her sinuous arms are bent to her lap and abdomen. The standing figure has attenuated limbs, globular breasts, and a distended abdomen, perhaps indicative of pregnancy. Both figures have white-painted embellishments such as beaded necklaces, shoulder adornments, earspool designs, and headband details atop a deep-red slip, and both are fantastic examples from this ancient shaft tomb culture! Size of largest (standing): 5.125" H (13 cm).
Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
